Welcome
You are invited to take part in a psychological study at the University of Aberdeen. Before you agree to take part, please read the following information carefully and email us if you have any questions. This study has been approved by the Internal Review Board at the School of Psychology at the University of Aberdeen.

You will not be able to take part on a mobile device. You must be 18 years or older to take part in this study.

What is the purpose of the study?
We are interested in how people make decisions about memory.

What would taking part involve?
In this experiment, you will study items (e.g., a face) and then be asked questions about those items later. This experiment will take 10-15 minutes of your time.

How long does the study take?
The study will require 10-15 minutes of your time.

Do I have to take part?
No. It is your choice whether you participate or not and your participation is entirely voluntary. If you do decide to take part, then you are free to withdraw from the study at any time and you do not need to give a reason. You will not lose any SONA credit if you withdraw.

How much will I get paid?
If you are taking part via SONA at the University of Aberdeen, you will receive .5 credits after completing the experiment. You will not lose any SONA credit if you withdraw. If you are taking part via Prolific, you will receive pro rata minimum wage in the UK for completing the experiment. You will not receive compensation if you are taking part via Sample Size.

What happens to the data?
The data will not be linked to names or identifying information and may be shared on online sites that are dedicated to hosting anonymised data from research (e.g., Open Science Framework). We are committed to protecting anonymity and confidentiality of our participants. If you are taking part via SONA, we ask you to provide your email address so that we can make sure you have not participated in the experiment before. If you are taking part via Sample Size or Prolific, we ask you to provide your username or Prolific ID to make sure you have not participated in the experiment before. If you want your data to be removed from the dataset, contact Dr. Seale-Carlisle (email below) within 4 weeks, provide your email, the approximate time and day that you took part, and he will remove your data.

Are there any benefits to taking part and what will happen to the results?
By taking part in this study you will provide valuable information that could help the researchers to gain understanding of psychological processes. The results of this study may be written up in a paper in a scientific journal.
